Humanitarian crisis in Gaza

After two years of devastating attacks and the deadly blockade imposed by Israel, the people of Gaza are now facing an unprecedented humanitarian tragedy. After Hamas and Israel signed a ceasefire agreement in October 2025, Swiss Solidarity launched a new appeal and held a National Day of Solidarity that raised CHF 6 million. Our Swiss partner NGOs were able to provide vital assistance to the civilian population despite the extremely complicated humanitarian access situation.

Earthquake in Southeast Asia

On 28 March 2025, a massive 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck much of Southeast Asia. In Myanmar, where the epicentre was located, the disaster caused thousands of deaths and injuries. Literally overnight, thousands of people lost their homes, access to drinking water, electricity and their livelihoods. Given the scale of the disaster, Swiss Solidarity immediately launched an appeal for donations and held a National Day of Solidarity to provide those affected with immediate assistance.

War in Ukraine

In 2025, Swiss Solidarity maintained its commitment to the people of Ukraine, plunged into a dramatic humanitarian crisis caused by Russia’s invasion and the relentless bombing that has been taking place since February 2022. The situation on the ground continues to deteriorate: the country’s infrastructure is in ruins and over 12.7 million people require humanitarian assistance. In the past year, SwS allocated CHF 22 million to support the population in regions most affected by violence, particularly in the east of the country.

Testimonial

When her house was severely damaged by bombing, 80-year-old Kharkiv native Svitlana was forced to leave everything behind. Thanks to your donations, HEKS-EPER was able to repair the roof and windows to make her home habitable again. “I am so happy to have been able to return to my beloved house. All my roses are here, my whole life is here. I thought I would never return. I thought my house was lost forever. But now I’m back.”

Child relief in Switzerland and abroad

In Switzerland and internationally, Swiss Solidarity has maintained its commitment to children. Funded projects seek to prevent violence, care for and support child victims of violence, and raise awareness among the public and policy-makers in order to create a lasting impact. In December, during the year-end solidarity campaign, Swiss Solidarity and SRG SSR joined forces to raise money to protect child victims of violence, both in Switzerland and in the regions of the world most affected by conflict and hardship. The campaign raised a total of CHF 5.7 million.

Natural disasters in Switzerland

Over the past two years, Switzerland has been hit by major natural disasters. On 28 May 2025, a massive landslide struck the village of Blatten in Valais, destroying almost every home and killing one person. The outpouring of support that followed in the wake of the landslide was remarkable, amounting to nearly CHF 23 million in donations. This money enabled us to provide concrete support to help residents overcome this tragedy. Furthermore, our relief efforts following the devastating weather events that struck Valais, Ticino and Graubünden during the summer of 2024 continued throughout the year, providing long-term support to those affected by the disaster.

Our priorities when delivering aid to disaster victims

  • Delivering emergency assistance, covering the cost of short-term accommodation, and providing transportation, new clothes and furniture
  • Providing support for individuals, small businesses and associations, to help cover additional costs and expenses not covered by insurance or other bodies
